Press Release::Romania - Investing in youth and women

AMBASSADOR G. WALLACE HOPE INTERVIEW

ROMANIA – FOREIGN EMPOWERMENT POLICY – PART 1

Yes, thank you for your questions. Yes, I am the White House Advisor to President Obama and the G20 for a new policy called the Foreign Empowerment Policy and this is an important shift for the G20 Governments because instead of giving aid, our focus is on empowering the people to give things for themselves. So, the Foreign Empowerment Policy is a convergence, a foreign policy, economic stimulus, poverty alleviation, a mass collaboration. No longer is it good enough to do things to people or even for people, but what we want to do is to transfer the knowledge, the processes and the technology so people can live green and sustain ably themselves.

ROMANIA – GROW THE GREEN ECONOMY – PART 2

Yes, I got interested in Romania from one of ours stakeholders who is making movies in  Romania and I started to look at the country and I did not known that much about it and I was really surprised how green, how eco-tourism could be developed, how the unemployment rate was high but there's a lot of talents and skills among the young people and so that started my interest in how can we rebirth Romania, how can we take in about into the knowledge economy and that's why I choused to do the two programs. The first program is going to be, to create Rollywood and that is to attract the movies and documentaries that need to be made with a very green and eco-centric background. The second program is to emerge the green economy by empowering 150,000 unemployed people to start their own micro-enterprises, distributing, selling, installing, maintaining green technologies so the CO2, pollution can be reduced, the oxygen can be increased and Romania can build it's next wave in it's economy in a very green and sustainable way.

ROMANIA – YOUTH TALENT AND SKILLS – PART 3

As it in terms of Romania, I'm very positive in the opportunities that it has, because the youth want to be part of the change they want to see in the world, there's a lot of talent and a lot of skills. And the people that are there in Romania want to make that change, they want to do something different and so when I look at all the countries in terms of the investment and what is important and I see that in terms of foreign policy, in terms of economic stimulus, poverty alleviation and mass collaboration. The world is different, actions can come together and be mobilized by the youth of Romania.

ROMANIA – NO GOVERNMENT CAN CREATE JOBS FOR ALL – PART 4

A good Romanian economy is where everyone who wants to work, everyone who wants to participate in the economy is empowered to do so, that they have access to education, that they have access to learning business skills, so that they can become  an entrepreneur. Now for too long people have said 'Oh, the Government should do this, the Government should do that'. The reality is that no Government in the world can create enough jobs for it's citizens so it's time that we don't rely on that, we don't want to be nannies   by anyone, it's time that we look in the mirror and we say 'Hello' to our new boss and that is ourselves. And so, as we transfer the knowledge from MIT, from whorled business school, from Stanford, as we transfer that knowledge to the young people of Romania, this will empower them to create their own micro-enterprises, run their own businesses and release all that talent and energy had of the youth

ROMANIA – CONCERN ABOUT THE US ECONOMY – PART 5

Yes, quite rightly everyone should be concerned about the US economy, because in the shift from the industrial age to the knowledge economy, then a lot of Americans weren't prepared for that. The toxic accepts and the liabilities that we created from Wall-Street, those had have taken a tremendous amount of time and we we've been in this crisis, recession since 2007. Normally we will come back out of that a lot faster, but as I've said many times, this is not a normal recession, this is a huge shift from the industrial age to the knowledge economy and therefore the institutions weren't prepared, the people weren't prepared and now, as we work through that, as we start to see new businesses growing, new jobs created and then that's positive.  But, the real unemployment rate is still like 20,000,000 people and that's not good enough. So, in Romania and in America we, we have to look at the people, at creating their own opportunities for themselves and not just relying on either  Governments.

ROMANIA – HOW DO WE EMPOWER EVERY CITIZEN? – PART 6

Well, I think that everyone says: 'well, what about America, what about China, what about India?' or all these different economies. But, we have to look that the G20 is responsible for 85% of global domestic product and the G192, which is made up of other 172 countries, only represents 15% of the global trade. So, instead of seeing it in a negative, we will see it's a positive, is a mode that we plant top down and we invest bottom-up then we can drive all those new economies and we can emerge those new markets and we can create prosperity for all. It's really not the time to say of all if this country wins, if this country loses, it's about say: 'how do we empower all the citizens in the world, to create their own businesses, to create their own opportunities, to grow their own local, and regional, and national economies?' and then to participate in the global economy. You know, I have orphans in Africa then apart of the global economy now and I have, you know, very highly educated people who won't make that shift. So, it's really about attitude if you think of yourself as a global citizen, that just happens to be living in Romania, or Canada, or whatever you live, then that's the way around to think about it, rather than you are a citizen of a particular country and you can only  have that opportunity in that country.

ROMANIA – TRANSPARENCY FOR DECISIONS THAT AFFECT OUR LIVES – PART 7

Yes, above these positive and negative aspects of Wikileaks, the people that were been involved in releasing the information, obviously now fighting legal cases and there's a lot of information that has been damaging the relationships. But, on the positive side, I think we have to understand that what happens to information, for instance if a decision is made in/on Capitol Hill in Washington DC and it's classified then that's classified for 25 years, then it has to be declassified and then somebody has to pick it up and say: 'This was a bad decision, we need to change this policy' so 25 years is an awful long time. So, if a President screwed up, if Congress or Senate made bad decision at the time or simply the decisions are no longer relevant for that country or for that region, then to have to wait 25+ years before you can do something about it, isn't very clever. So, there will always be, you know, top secret decisions that have to be kept classified, but I support the Sunlight Foundation and their policies on bringing the information to the people, so that if the people think that it's about decision, then they have a legal strategy and a channel to bring that information to the fore and to get that decision and that policy changed. So, I support the transparency and I support as all been involved in a global economy as global citizens and being involved in the decisions that affect our lives so much.

ROMANIA – HOW DO WE CREATE A PROSPEROUS ENVIRONMENT ?– PART 8

I think we need to move the dialogue on emigration to a new perspective. Before we'd said if were in a country that is poor and we can escape from that country to a country that is rich, then there' s  more opportunities, but the fact is that isn't the case anymore. I have some Jordanian friends who are now in Oman and earning more money and  having a better quality of life than Jordanian sister who emigrated to America and now she is in terrible poverty issues and the family are supporting her. So, I think we need to shift to how can we develop each economy in each country so that all the citizens can participate in it, all the citizens have an opportunity of getting education, of health care, of having their own business, getting  a good job, working in that community, being able to feed their family and being able to be on service and to learn and to earn. That is what we should be looking at, not in terms of a world and how many thousands of miles do you have to travel to get a better job or to earn more money. How do we create the environment in each country, where people are supported to be the best that they can be?

ROMANIA – MESSAGE TO ROMANIANS – PART 9

Yes, the message that I'd like to send to your readers and to your viewers is that, you know, let's all work together on Romania, this is not about someone doing something for you or to you, this is about investment comening to Romania to empower you to do things for yourselves. So, have your dreams, have your goals and be prepared to collaborate with each other and with international stakeholders and do what your talent and your skills say it's possible. Because is by releasing that energy and talent, and that love, and passion for we do that we can make a better world. And that's why I'm here to do is to support all groups and countries that want to go into transformation and want to be a happier , a healthier and a wealthier place for their citizens.

ROMANIA – INVESTING 'BOTTOM UP' IN UNEMPLOYED – PART 10

Yes, for Romania I have agreed investment of $1.85 B, $350 M of that is to create Rollywood, so that films and documentaries can be made in Romania and distributed digitally all around the world to traditional movie theatres to laptops, to IPADs, to Mvideo using all the latest digital technologies. So this is going to create jobs, it's going to create a lots of tourism opportunities and it's going to empower the youth in Romania to play a role in building Rollywood as the movie industry in the Eastern Europe. The second part of the investment is for $1.5 B and that will fund 150,000 unemployed youth and women to start their own micro-enterprises. Now, this will focus on the on the green economy, ensuring that Romania can develop in a green and sustainable way. And this is very positive because the country is beautiful and green as it is and now we can use the green technologies to further enhance that and sustain the economy. So, that's going to be very exciting because the opportunities for distribution, for sales, for installation,  maintenance and everyone can work together to build the green economy in Romania. So, I'm very happy to make that investment in Romania and I'm sure that the talent and skills and the passion of the people will be energized and released and everyone will make things happen.
